What is more compelling and real than actually hearing what it is like to be a woman working in sales at a company you might consider working for?
The women in sales at your company should feel empowered to speak about what it is like to work at your company in sales. There are a few ways you can start to help spread the word of what it is really like to work in sales as a woman at your company.
Have recruiting events where your recruiters put on cocktail parties in your city where people in sales are invited.
At these networking events make it known that there are women there who work at the company in a sales role. Make sure women there networking know why those women are there. They are there to talk to you about what it is like to work in sales at your company. The process of deciding on working at a company should be a mutual decision and exploratory process.
Have women sales reps, women managers, any woman in sales role there at the event to have conversations there considering working for your company. Let them ask you questions about your role and what you like and don’t like about being a woman in sales at your company. This will create a remarkable and helpful recruiting process.
When you are considering working somewhere it is helpful to have a real and honest conversation about career paths and hear real stories about successful women who worked their way up and around in sales at the company you are applying for or learning about.
Share your story with women at the recruiting networking event.
Seek out women in the room. Go up to them and tell them who you are and why you are there. Tell them why you care and why you want to help them understand what it is like to work at your company. They will appreciate that you care. They will appreciate that your company cares about the topic as well.
You are there to help women like them know that it is important to your company to get more women in sales.
You are there to be an advocate for getting more women in sales.
Tell them your truthful opinions of what it is really like at your company to be in sales as a woman. Let the women ask you questions and answer the questions honestly. Have real conversations.
Women at these kinds of recruiting events only have amazing and thankful things to say about having women who do the job there to talk to them. Women have said these kinds of things to me at these kinds of events:
I am so so so glad you came up to talk to me about this. It shows how much your company cares about women in sales.
It’s awesome to learn first hand about the role from someone doing it.
You’re an amazing advocate for your company.
Showing that you care about this topic and that your company openly acknowledges that they want to get more women in sales will help your recruitment efforts. It will help your company be known for caring about this topic and help to change the ratio of more men to women in sales.
If we want to expose more women to sales we need to openly discuss this topic. What better time to do this than in the recruitment process.
