There is a new kind of leadership brewing for millennial women at work and it's not aspiring to the c-suite

Posted by Ali Powell on Apr 3, 2015 10:55:28 AM

Going through my morning ritual of reading The BroadSheet today I found an article about how more and more women are not hoping or looking to become part of the C suite. @kayelbee, thank you for writing this article today. It definitely spurred me to think about what leadership really means in our companies today.

Hey Journalists: Start Writing More Articles about the Women Working in Tech Not at the C or VP Level if You Want to Get More Women in Tech

Posted by Ali Powell on Oct 28, 2014 5:27:51 PM

There are so many blog posts and articles that I see daily on how to get more women working in tech. They are all over. Every major publication, news site, or tech blog now has a section about women. That is great. I think we should keep doing that. But, if we want to expose more women to what it is like to work in many different roles in tech then we need to expose women of all ages and all expertise to real jobs that women have in tech at all levels. A lot of these articles talk about the lack of women in tech and give advice on how to get more women there. But, the only articles I read about women working in tech are with C level or VP level people being featured on those posts.

I read articles about women in business and women in tech all the time. Over time I have grown to have my own opinions on the matter.  I have read online about how we as a country need to work on keeping women staying in the workforce. The answer to staying in the workforce as well as getting more women into tech might just be about feeling comfortable and accepted. Feeling comfortable and accpeted by others around you leads to confidence.

How My Mother's Selflessness and Determination Taught Me that Women Can Be Whatever They Want to Be and Work Their Way Up

Posted by Ali Powell on May 12, 2014 10:05:14 AM

My mother deserves more than this blog post. I rarely talk about how my mom has influenced me as a person but with Mothers Day yesterday I think she deserves a spot light. My Mom has taught me that any girl, any lady, any woman can be what she wants to be in life. To be successful (whatever that means to you) you need to get out there and do stuff. Get stuff done. Luck happens because you work hard and then your hard work pays off. Be good to people and to yourself and good things will come to you. Hard work is something we are all capable of. The world holds whatever you want to make of it. So get up and start working towards something. If you want to get somewhere in life you need to work towards it. Have your eye on some goal and work towards everyday.
